I haven't looked much at Linux news in the last month so I found this video most interesting.
Basically removing GNU and replacing it with Rust.
not a bad idea, in itself.
However the licencing is interesting - If your not obliged to share you mods and updates then you become the only place that has them.
If you can build a system that you control you can make some of it premium and charge for it.
Canonical already make a nice server version of Linux, there would be money to be made having a supported version of the desktop operating system.
Home users are a very good place to test all your upgrades for free, and at no risk to themselves.
Red hat springs to mind.
I think there is definitely some scope to make a return on there investment.
Is this good for Linux- well that entirely depends on your implementation of it.
Will it fracture an already diverse range of Distributions I think it will.
Divide and conquer.
It makes a lot of business sense.
so if you happy with your operating system coming from a business its fine.
What could possibly go wrong.
Will Microsoft buy them? That would be a monopoly! Will they or do they control them
that,s just a conspiracy.
Will I try Ubuntu again - yes most likely.
Im glad its called Rust - always found Gimp a tragic choice of name for nice bit of software.
